I had to look at that closet every morning; I started my day feeling cluttered. Today, I could see all my clothes. It felt great!
The process of cleaning out is productive too. I remove everything that I haven't worn for a year. A couple of friends love to go through what I've culled, and thinking about their delight helps me be fierce and stick to that rule. Then I try on what I want to keep. If I don't like the way it looks 100% it goes in the give-away pile too.
Because our children haven't settled down in any permanent way, there are lots of cluttered closets in our house. Having taken care of my closet, I would like to attack theirs too. I wish every closet in my house had nothing extraneous in it.
Billie, I loved reading about the spring cleaning in the barn. There may be a parallel between what I had to do to get my closet organized and mucking the stalls!

This is quite a transformation. I'm impressed.
Is there any ripple effect in your life from doing this?

I'm impressed as well - I have not done a thing in my closet, but I have been spring-cleaning the barn! :) More fun, I must say.
I do relate to what you're saying about clutter and how it affects the day.

I find that if I clean up some old mess, I then think: wow, if I can do that, I can do anything.
