Where everyone knows my name

I wore the name tag all day. My husband and I work together and he never said a word about it, although he told me he loved the jacket I had on. I met two friends for lunch and both of them commented on it, one saying, "Oh, you wore a name tag so we'd know your name, haha!" and the other asking why I had on a name tag. Tonight I had a board meeting. We were interviewing a prospective employee, and my minister thought I had worn the tag so she would know my name. A couple of the women said how beautiful it was.

I was most self-conscious when I was going to be around someone I knew. And I did catch a few people looking twice at it, I guess since it wasn't your usual Hello My Name is... tag.

I think I'm going to wear it to church on Sunday. I was going to wear it to work again tomorrow, but we have an new architect coming in to talk about a job and if he's observant, he might wonder why I have on a name tag at my office. Then again, that might make things interesting.

He might love you for it - so he'll be able to remember your name as he talks.

I left a customer's office in Dunn yesterday afternoon and called out, "Bye Nancy!" on my way out the door.

Then I panicked. OMG - was her name Nancy? Or did I make that up??

Luckily - it WAS Nancy. But I've been known to rename people far too many times. *sigh*

I've developed some serious coping mechanisms for name-nesia. Turns out the architect's client, who came too, used to be associated with Algonquin Books, was good friends with another client of ours, had just attended Jill McCorkle's wedding, and loved the fact that my office bathroom reading included the best books of 2007 publication! You'd think as small as this world is, remembering names would be no problem.

I partially took my own dare by accident yesterday. I left a 5:30 reception with a name tag still on. Then spent a couple of hours at the Chapel Hill library with it on. No one commented. I wasn't feeling especially outgoing though. Was probably giving off reticence vibes.

It is a beautiful name tag. The only beautiful one I've ever seen.

I love wearing a name tag. That helps me remember who I am! (kidding, sort of)

Mamie, you had a very literary work day! I love your name tag and was inspired to make my own. BUT. There is no one here to read it!

Thanks, Trisha (who got to see it in person!). Billie, the funniest part of wearing the tag is how silly you feel wearing it around people who already know who you are. At least that was how it was for me. Thanks, Peggy, for suggesting such a fun thing. I intend to wear it again soon - probably Sunday as I said. I will be waiting for your next dare....
